Episode V - Fall 2018

Sixty four years ago CinemaScope Pictures released a romantic comedy called “Three Coins in the Fountain”. It did moderately well at the box office. It went on to win Best Song at the 27th Academy Awards and become a standard for Frank Sinatra. As the story unfolds, the lovers tour much of Rome and in a key scene throw coins over their shoulders into ‘The Trevi Fountain’, the largest Baroque fountain in the city.

What followed was a new tradition that persists in Rome today. Every day some $3400 dollars are thrown into the fountain. The money is collected and given to the poor.

This is a photo of us at the Trevi Fountain in 2008. I had more hair then. At least in my mind I did. And we, like thousands of tourists do daily, threw our own coins over our shoulders. According to legend , if you throw a coin in you will return to Rome.

It took us a decade but today we return to Rome for Episode V of ‘The Road To Bali’. We leave today. If want to come along, we will show you everything. See you tomorrow in Rome. Ciao!
